Notes
- From 1964 Markuson Genealogy, of which he was the author, Albert
wrote of himself: "bought grain for Olson & Cox Elevator Company about
four years. Then took homestead about 17 miles west of where
Underwood, North Dakota, is now situated. Sold homesteady in 1907 and
moved to Rider, North Dakota, where he bought grain for Minnekota
Elevator Company. Then worked for same elevator company at Fessendon,
North Dakota, after which he went to Canada in June of 1909 where he
built his own elevators at Gull Lake and Tomkins. Later Oscar Engelstad
and Albert built an elevator at Dollard, Sask. The elevator at Gull Lake
burned in 1913, and then he sold the one at Tomkins. The elevator at
Dollard was sold in 1917."
The Albert Markuson record is four pages, and is titled "The Markusons
1834 to 1964". At the bottom of the last page is "written by Albert
Markuson, Litchfield, Minnesota, in January 1964". It is clear that some
of the information is sketchy or anecdotal -- for example, Ledwin
Ofstedahl(Grandpa O's brother) is listed as "Edwin". However, the
information contained here has been added to these records as it reads in
the Albert Markuson paper unless it is known to be otherwise.
